Review: Eve

Eve (Eve, #1)Eve
Anna Carey
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: October 4, 2011

The year is 2032, sixteen years after a deadly virus—and the vaccine intended to protect against it—wiped out most of the earth’s population. The night before eighteen-year-old Eve’s graduation from her all-girls school she discovers what really happens to new graduates, and the horrifying fate that awaits her.

Fleeing the only home she’s ever known, Eve sets off on a long, treacherous journey, searching for a place she can survive. Along the way she encounters Caleb, a rough, rebellious boy living in the wild. Separated from men her whole life, Eve has been taught to fear them, but Caleb slowly wins her trust...and her heart. He promises to protect her, but when soldiers begin hunting them, Eve must choose between true love and her life.

I wasn't sure what to expect from Eve. I've heard mixed things about it, but mostly good things. Turns out, Eve was an enjoyable read. No my favorite dystopian novel, but it was good.

I enjoyed Eve, the character. She was so sure about her world, but then she found out what really happens. When she found out, she didn't dawdle or doubt, she hot the hell out of there, which I liked.

I also liked a lot of the secondary characters. Arden, Benny, Lark, Marjorie and Otis. It's just a lot of them came and went so fast that I wished I had more time with them. And of course, I loved Caleb.

This book was really short, especially for a dystopian. This isn't a bad thing. What was there was really good. But I wished there was a little.... more. More of the characters, more world building. But it was very fast paced and intriguing, which made me want to keep reading.

And of course it ended with a cliffhanger. I need to know what happens next!

Eve was enjoyable, but not entirely addicting. Dystopian fans will enjoy it.
